Bonsai protection against diseases and pests.

The best way to prevent diseases and pests is to cultivate plants according to their needs. There are some basic needs that every plant has. Sufficient light, the optimum substrate mixture, the right watering regime and fertilization adapted to the season. For indoor bonsai, ensure sufficient fresh air and air circulation and, above all, choose the right location.

When should plant protection products be used?

In nature, the trees live together with the pests and have adapted to the pest infestation. As a result, the trees are much less likely to be threatened in their existence. With bonsais, the threat or infestation by insect pests is somewhat different. A caterpillar infestation, which leads to baldness, or spider mites, which are usually noticed too late, can cause leaves and even branches to die. The bonsai is usually so weakened by such dramatic effects that harmful fungi have an easy time of it and can put the bonsai in serious danger, even causing its death.

That is why the use of poison, at the right time and in the right dose, can also save lives.

However, before resorting to heavy chemical pesticides, you should use so-called non-toxic preparations (organic) and above all take preventative measures against pests and harmful fungi. However, preventative measures should only be taken if the bonsai is repeatedly plagued by the same pests, e.g. lice or mildew.
