Yamadori - Collecting trees in nature

Bonsai trees can not only be bought, but also grown from a seed or a cutting. You can also buy raw material from a tree nursery or “simply” collect them in the wild. Of course, only with the consent of the landowner.

Tree history

Here I show you a tree story from December 2017 to October 2018. The best time for digging in nature is the dormant stage (i.e. the period from January to March). The best source material can be found where the living conditions for the trees are poor or where wild animals are constantly eating them back.

This magnificent flowering ash (Fraxinus ornus) has been standing on a stony, dry plateau and has been heavily nibbled by wild animals.

After two hours of hard work with pickaxe, shovel, axe and saw; 5 km carrying the tree (25 kg) to the car and finally arriving home after a 200 km drive, the tree was planted in a seed tray.

June 2018

After the first strong shoots, the flowering ash received a complete pruning and its first basic design.

october 2018

The flowering ash has been given a second, finer design.
