From styling to the workshop's styling results

The September workshop focused on developing conifer bonsai and carefully thinning deciduous trees. The appropriate work depends on the species, the condition of the tree and the next styling goal. At our workshops, the trees brought by participants are first assessed together with the bonsai artist. This discussion establishes the next steps in styling and care. Participants then carry out the agreed work on their trees with expert guidance. At the end, the work is assessed together with the artist. The photo series connects work on the trees with the styling results on the table. Yamadori and nursery stock offer different paths for bonsai development. Informal upright (Moyogi), literati (Bunjingi), twin-trunk (Sokan), cascade (Kengai) and semi-cascade (Han-Kengai) illustrate different design approaches. Rock plantings and rock creations by Josef Rauscher form a further focus. Tree and stone are considered together as a single composition.

Styling bonsai together

Shared moments with bonsai and focused work on the crown are part of the workshop. The nursery-grown juniper is developed step by step.
